O’Sullivan and Chandler Triumph on English Amateur Tour
Sean O’Sullivan and Harvey Chandler won the latest EPSB English Amateur Snooker Tour events last weekend at Barratts in Northampton, whilst Sydney Wilson significantly strengthened his lead at the top of the rankings.
Londoner O’Sullivan was in superb form throughout Event 5 on Saturday. After a 3-0 win over Brandon Hall in the last 32, he registered runs of 117 and 65 as he defeated Event 1 runner-up George Pragnell 3-1 in the last 16.
He was in even more powerful scoring form during his 3-0 victory over Martyn Taylor in the quarter-finals, wrapping up the match with breaks of 137 and 118 – the former being the biggest break of the day overall.
In the last four, O’Sullivan came back from 2-1 down to defeat Lee Shanker 4-2, and then won the final two frames of the match to deny Event 2 victor Wilson 4-2 in the title tie.
Despite a last 32 loss on Sunday, O’Sullivan finished the weekend second in the updated rankings.
Chandler triumphed on home soil as he secured the Event 6 title on Sunday, dropping just three frames in five matches.
The former European Amateur Champion clean swept Manasawin Phetmalaikul, Brandon Hall and Mark Vincent all 3-0 in the last 32, 16 and 8 respectively.
The only match he relinquished frames in was the semi-final against the consistent Wilson. In a contest where there was never more than a frame between them, club resident Chandler came through 4-3.
In the final, Chandler faced Josh Thomond, who had come back from 3-0 down to defeat Jenson Kendrick 4-3 in the other last four fixture. However, Chandler – highlighted with a break of 80 – ran out a 4-0 winner.
Wilson Still Leads the Way
From four events so far this season, Wilson has recorded quarter-final, semi-final and runner-up finishes alongside his success in Event 2. Now on 260 points, he has a 120-point lead over Sean Sullivan (140).
Pragnell (135) is third and Event 1 winner Jed Mann (130) is fourth.
The final English Amateur Tour events of the season are the rescheduled 3 and 4 which will take place at the Hazel Grove Snooker Club in Stockport on the 5th and 6th February. These events were originally postponed at the end of November due to snow.
