Pragnell’s Perfect Start Continues
In-form George Pragnell continues to enjoy a blistering start to the 2022/23 season as he secured back-to-back wins on the EPSB English Amateur Snooker Tour following victory at Event 2 last weekend.
Pragnell, who has also reached successive Q Tour finals in recent weeks, emerged from a high-quality field of 57 players at The Winchester in Leicester to further extend his lead at the top of the rankings and pocket another £750 payday.
The Norwich cueman made his intentions clear in the opening round, crafting breaks of 66 and then 101 twice in consecutive frames as he defeated former Crucible Theatre qualifier Leo Fernandez 4-2.
That was the same scoreline as he denied Peter Devlin (with breaks of 50, 60, 61 and 52) in the last 32 and Alex Millington (breaks of 61, 112 and 73) in the last 16.
Returning for the final eight the next day, Pragnell restricted opponent Kayden Brierley to just 33 points as he eliminated him 4-0 along with efforts of 78 and 92. The match was a repeat of last month’s Event 1 final which Pragnell won 4-2.
In the semi-finals, Pragnell had to come from behind, taking the final two frames to oust Ashley Carty 4-3 (runs of 74 and 66).
Making his way through the other side of the draw was former ranking event semi-finalist Martin O’Donnell who, like Pragnell, was in fine form as he travelled to Leicester.
O’Donnell made three centuries en route to the final, booking his place there with a comeback 4-3 win against Harvey Chandler in the last four.
A repeat of the Q Tour Event 2 Final just five weeks ago, this time it was Pragnell who would be celebrating victory. A fantastic standard with at least a half-century break being made in every frame, Pragnell (breaks of 58, 94, 77 and 74) completed a 4-2 win.
In total, there were 20 century breaks throughout the tournament, the highest being a 137 from Josh Mulholland.
