Hunter is the National Women’s Champion

Jamie Hunter defeated Mary Talbot-Deegan 3-1 in the final at the Landywood Snooker Club to win the 2023 Inter County Logistics English Women’s Snooker Championship.

Held on the eve of the WWS British Open which will take place across the weekend at the same venue, 26-year-old Hunter claims the national championship for the first time and joins a list of former winners that includes Reanne Evans and Rebecca Kenna. 

Hunter won all three of her matches in the groups phase, finishing top of Group C and qualifying for the knockout rounds. 

The Widnes cueist then defeated 11-year-old Ellise Scott 2-0 in the semi-finals, making a break of 58 in the second frame. Scott was making her debut in the tournament and did well in registering three match victories throughout the day against experienced opponents.

On the other side of the draw, Talbot-Deegan also reached the title match without dropping a frame. The 42-year-old won Group A and then eliminated 2020 winner Emma Parker 2-0 in the last four – also registering a run of 58 in the final frame. 

With both players having been very impressive getting there, something had to give in the final. Talbot-Deegan comfortably claimed the opening frame, but Hunter strung together the following three frames for victory. 

Hunter completes this season’s women’s double on the EPSB circuit having also won The Winchester English Women’s Snooker Open back in September. Her latest triumph will also taste sweet after losing in the 2022 final to Kenna via a deciding frame.
