EPSB Calendar Announced for 2024/25 Season

The English Partnership for Snooker and Billiards (EPSB) has today announced its provisional calendar of snooker events and competition structure for the 2024/25 season.

The news follows a hugely successful 2023/24 season for the EPSB which saw a significant rise in entry numbers and new memberships, in tandem with a huge boost of over 30% in total prize money paid out across its national championships and tour events from 2022/23.

The new calendar aims to further build upon these positive trends with prize money projected to rise by at least further 15%, with an improved selection of high-quality 147 Club venues aimed at further encouraging greater participation in all events.

Below we provide a summary of the key points to note:

National Championships

The proven formats for each of the recognised national championships will remain unchanged following a campaign which saw Steven Hallworth lead the way with victory in the prestigious English Amateur Championship at the Landywood Snooker Club.

The Junior Championships will again consist of the Under-21, Under-18, Under-16 and Under-14 events, with the 6-Red Championship to once again return to the Northern Snooker Centre next February.

The Seniors Championship will once again be sponsored and hosted by the Landywood Snooker Club, but there is set to be a new home for the Over-55s Championship which will be held at the Crucible Newbury for the first time.

Following its successful first staging, the English League Snooker Championship won by the Whitchurch Legends has also been confirmed to return during the coming season.

The dress code for most of the national championships will also be upgraded to minimum EPSB Level 3, in line with changes made to the Amateur Tour and Junior Tour events last season to reflect the prestige of the events.

National Tours

The flagship English Amateur Tour will see a significant prize money boost with the prize fund for each of the five events increased by over 25% with a bumper first prize of £1,000 to be won at each tournament.

Following a fantastic first season for the all-new English Junior Tour, the leading circuit for Under-21 players will also receive a prize money boost, with trophies for the winner and runner-up to be provided at each Tour event for the first time.

In recognition of the strong support received for the Tour which received well over 200 entries last season, an additional four players will qualify from each Saturday qualifying day, meaning that 12 qualifiers will join eight elite players in the Sunday action.

There will also be an adjustment made to the rankings format, with seeded losers (i.e. the elite seeded players) to receive zero ranking points from the event should they fail to progress from their Sunday round robin group.

The Tour will also be complemented by the continuation of the EPSB Elite Junior Performance Programme, which provides the country’s leading junior players with valuable insight into what it takes to make it at the highest level as a professional snooker player.

The English Seniors Tour will also return for 2024/25 and will see a major upgrade with two events to be held at the Landywood Snooker Club – which will sponsor the Tour this season – alongside the Northern Snooker Centre, Frames Sports Bar and the all-new Club 200.

There will also be a significant boost to the prize money structure which will increase by 40% from last season, with the winner of each of the five events set to scoop a first prize of £500 alongside crucial ranking points in the race for European Championship qualification.
