The English Partnership for Snooker and Billiards (EPSB) is today pleased to announce that one of snooker’s most respected officials Jan Verhaas is to join the delivery team of its new referee training and qualification programme.
Verhaas, who is the current Chairman of the WPBSA’s Rules Committee, played a significant role in the most recent update to the official WPBSA Rulebook in 2019 and has taken charge of many of our sport’s most prestigious finals, including the World Championship on six occasions.
In recent years, Verhaas has gained significant experience as a referee assessor for WST and has played an increased role in helping the next generation of snooker referees to reach their potential.
He will provide support to fellow leading referee and examiner Brendan Moore with the delivery of the EPSB’s recently announced new Class 3 course, alongside a bridging course for existing referees.
Jan Verhaas said: “I am extremely excited to join this project. Brendan and I have always been very passionate about teaching our profession to others and knowing that the EPSB are working very closely with WPBSA Head of Coaching and Training Development Manager Chris Lovell, I have no doubt that this will be a successful journey. I can only praise the work carried out by the EPSB to have set up such an incredible coaching module and cannot wait to meet all those who want to become a snooker referee.”
Simon Berrisford, EPSB Chief Executive Officer said: “I am delighted to welcome Jan to our delivery team. I have been greatly encouraged by the initial response to the launch of our new referee training structure and have no doubt that our officials across the country can only benefit from his insight and experience.”
