Home » Blackwell and Davies Triumph on Open Series

Simon Blackwell and Ryan Davies were the latest EPSB Open Series event winners this past weekend.

Blackwell won his maiden Open Series title at Sam’s Snooker and Pool in Hartlepool following a string of fantastic results and performances.

The 29-year-old had a tough preliminary round match against Liam Clark which he managed to come through 3-2 before defeating Blake Munton 3-0 in the last 16 with breaks of 48, 72 and 101 – the latter effort would be the highest of the tournament.

He came back from 2-1 down to deny world number 28 and event one winner here, Gary Wilson, 3-2 in the quarter-finals and then eliminated another professional player – Farakh Ajaib – via a deciding frame again in the last four. Ajaib had come back from 2-0 down.

In the final, Blackwell faced local youngster Sean McAllister, who was runner-up here in event one to Wilson a few weeks ago. McAllister also scored some impressive wins on route but had to settle for the silver finish again as Blackwell ran out a 3-1 victor.

Davies became the first player on the Series to win three events when he claimed his latest title victory at Breakers Snooker Club in Leicester.

The teenager continues to shine on this circuit, dropping only a frame in four matches. He began with a 3-0 win over English under-16 finalist Westley Cooper – helped by breaks of 77 and 43 – before registering a trio of half-centuries in a 3-1 success over Callum Lloyd in the last eight.

Davies dispatched Open Series event two winner here Jenson Kendrick 3-0 in the semi-finals (52 break) and then repeated that scoreline against Andy Marriott in the final.

Davies extends his lead at the top of the rankings. Marriott moves into fifth position.
