In an exciting opening round of the Inter-Town Snooker competition Telford A, three-time winners and last year’s runners-up, emerged victorious with a 4-2 win over Landywood in a star-studded affair that saw both teams combine for an impressive 12 West Midlands individual titles between them.
The match started perfectly for Telford, who raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to solid wins from Tom Maxfield and John Fallows.
Landywood responded by sending out their two best players, Jack Harris and Robbie James, to fight back. Harris compiled a sensational 100 break to pull Landywood back into contention, defeating former two-time West Midlands champion Paul Harper.
Then came the battle of the titans: Matt Davies, with for West Midlands titles, faced Robbie James, who has five.
The two played an epic one hour and twenty minutes frame, filled with superb safety play and it was Davies who came out on top, winning the frame on the pink to give Telford a 3-1 lead.
Landywood weren’t finished though, as Adrian Woods took the next frame by beating Keith Price, but Telford’s captain Paul Lloyd clinched the deciding frame, defeating former West Midlands champion Dave Turner on the pink.
Telford would like to thank the Landywood Snooker Club for their hospitality and facilities – showing once again why they are one of the top snooker clubs in the country.
Telford will now travel to Shrewsbury in the next round, where they’ll be the overwhelming favourites to progress further.
