Three teams have guaranteed their places in the finals weekend of the 2025 English League Snooker Championship following the first qualifying event at the Landywood Snooker Club last weekend.
Six teams competed across the whole weekend, plus Nottingham who had to withdraw due to unforeseen circumstances at the end of day one, and the top three placing teams in the group are now guaranteed a spot at the the finals weekend on 28-29 June.
The Staffordshire & West Midlands Billiards & Snooker Association (SWMBSA) featured three teams in the first qualifier and their ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams both secured their places in the next stage alongside Gloucester.
Further qualification places will be confirmed following the conclusion of the second qualifying event at the same venue next month (24-25 May).
The two-day event saw notable names competing including former English Amateur champion Paul Deaville (SWMBSA ‘B’) and reigning English Over-55’s champion Nick Pearce (Gloucester) alongside a number of other former professionals.
A total of 24 half-centuries were compiled across a high quality weekend with SWMBSA ‘B’ cueist Callum Downing, who reached the final of the 2024 English Amateur Championship, scoring the two highest contributions of 98 and 90.
Ultimately it was SWMBSA ‘A’, captained by Tom Burgess, who finished at the summit of the group by a single point over their fellow league side SWMBSA ‘B’ with Gloucester finishing in third – also by just a solitary point over Wednesfield.
The second qualifying event takes place on 24-25 May followed by the finals weekend of the English League Snooker Championship on 28-29 June.
